Thain’s helicopter was shot down just a few weeks after he was awarded the silver star for gallantry for his flying heroics.

This is a bit of an understatement on his award of the Silver Star.
When he was contacted, about the surrender of Camp Carroll, and asked if he could get there within 30 minutes to evacuate the two Advisor’s their was no stoping to think about what had to be done. Cpt. Thain dropped the sling load and got there in about than 10 minutes. upon arriving the front gates were open and the NVA were walking into Camp Carroll.

I just wanted to thank you for including my Father in your 100th Anniversary. Zephyrhills was a pivital point in mine and Daddy’s lives. We have so many joyous memories . Land Marks , buildings and people change or fade away , memories live on as”the way things once used to be”.

The “official” second largest Camphor tree in the United States is located in Waldo, Florida and has been documented by the Florida Forestry Department.

I had the honor of serving as Miss Zephyrhills in 1974. It was so much fun representing my home town on floats for parades in the Tampa Bay area, throwing out first pitch, bicycle campaign and much more. Zephyrhills will always hold such a special place in my heart and memories!
